About Lodge # 12

Lodge # 12 is one of many regional U.S. and Canadian member groups which make up the body of the Internatioanl Ship Masters’ Association (ISMA).

ISMA traces its history to Buffalo, NY where the Excelsior Marine Benevolent Association was formed in 1886.

As per the ISMA Constitution, “the purpose of the Association shall be, to unite all shipmasters and licensed merchant marine officers of good moral character; to elevate the character of its members; and to utilize their professional experience to promote safety on the Great Lakes and any navigable waters.”

Fit-Out Dinner

Each March, ISMA Lodge # 12 hosts its annual Fit-Out Dinner at the Hammond Steakhouse in Superior, WI. Lodge members, industry affiliates, and invited guests attend this event.

Grand Lodge Convention

The ISMA holds an annual Grand Lodge Convention, with the venue changing each year. The next convention hosted by Twin Ports Lodge # 12 will be in 2016.

NELC

The ISMA Grand Lodge Navigation, Engineering, & Legislative Committee (NELC) tackles current maritime issues.

Lodge Meetings

Lodge # 12 meeting are typically held every two weeks during the winter months (January through mid-April).

Maritime Education

ISMA Lodge # 12 supports maritime education, both in educating the public about marine transportation, and in supporting the career paths of our mariners.

Community Outreach

Lodge # 12 is often engaged in various community outreach programs, usually maritime related.
